About Us
The Nation of Poets' mission is to preserve, celebrate, and elevate Somali poets and storytellers as a force for unity, cultural pride, and connection across generations and borders.
We exist to build a space that transcends division—a place where Somalis everywhere can see themselves, feel inspired, and belong to something greater.
Meet The Team

Mohamed O. MOhamed
Executive Director
Mohamed is the Executive Director of The Nation of Poets, guiding the organization’s vision, programs, and daily operations. Born and raised in rural Somalia, he spent his childhood as a nomad in a world where stories were how people survived, remembered, and made sense of what they carried. That upbringing still shapes him and fuels his commitment to preserving, sharing, and celebrating Somali poetry and stories across generations

Halima Ahmed
Board President
Halima Ahmed founded The Nation of Poets (TNP) in 2007 as a global home for Somali poets to share their work, culture, and collective wisdom. Over the years, she has curated and preserved nearly 1,800 poems, hosted virtual open mics, and connected with more than 150 Somali poets and creatives across the world.
In 2025, through a collaborative effort led by the Executive Director and founding board members, TNP transitioned into a nonprofit organization to expand its reach and impact.
As Board President, Halima provides strategic leadership, ensures mission alignment, and serves as the guardian of TNP’s founding spirit. She continues to guide the organization’s cultural direction and supports its commitment to uplifting Somali poetic expression for generations to come.

Farah serves as TNP’s Chair of Development and Partnerships and Chair of the Governance Committee. She is a 1.5-generation Somali diaspora, born in Somalia, raised in the Netherlands, educated in London, and now residing in the United States. She brings a global perspective to supporting Somali poetry and storytelling. Farah builds relationships, seeks funding opportunities, and helps strengthen the structures that support TNP’s growth.
